This steel I beam structure was the first to be constructed over a major interstate since the unfortunate accident on I-70 where the newly constructed girders collapsed on the interstate. After that accident CDOT decided it was time to develop a new Girder Erection Specification to ensure this incident would never happen again. Lawrence Construciton partnered with CDOt to develop this new specification and use this project as an example that this new specification could be used successfully implemented. The "Girder Erection Plan" that CDOT references in its Standard Specifications is something that Lawrence Construction was a part of and is still in use today. The I-25 Railroad Overpass in Castle Rock was the first job using this new technique and it has proven to be an example that CDOT references even today.
