The roadway along SH 72- Coal Creek Canyon was completely washed out in many spots after the flooding in September 2013. The entire roadway and river channel had to be reconstructed to keep the roadway viable in the event of a future flood. Because of the severity of the 2013 flood, Lawrence Construction was called upon by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to begin mobilizaiton as quickly as possible. Lawrence Construction immediately put full crews on the project working seven days a week to meet the tight construction schedule. The road was open, unobstructed to the public, two weeks ahead of the contract completion date. Lawrence Construction performed all reconstruction, river realignment, rock retaining walls, debris clean up along with other required infastructure work.
